Horse Camps -

Give Your Child

the Joy of Riding

You Think You Want to Go to a Horse Camp?

Horse Camps - Here are some common questions we have answered for you

At What Age Can You Start Horse (Pony) Riding and Attend a Horse Camp?

Horse riding requires a combination of physical strength, mental and emotional maturity. Each child matures differently, so it is difficult to say at what age a child is ready for horse riding. Many horse riding centers apply a minimum age of 6 to allow children to ride a horse (pony) on their own. However, children may start earlier if they are led, supervised or instructed in an enclosed area. Attending a horse camp for a day might start at 7 or 8 years old.

Weight, size and strength of the child will determine if they are the right size for the horse or pony. While horses are able to carry the weight of most riders, some people are too large (height or weight) or small for the size of horse. For example, if you are too large for the horse, you could injure yourself, the horse or pony and put a dangerously high strain on the horse’s spine.

Why Do Children and Young Adults Like Horse Camps So Much?

Every day at a Horse Camp is an opportunity for adventure and discovery in the outdoors. Participate in games, experiments with the horses, go on treks, compete with each other in horse riding games and competitions, learn rural arts & crafts, participate in hide and seek hunts, enjoy making friends with other campers and much more.

Each horse camp is a unique experience where a child, teenager, or young adult will meet new friends and share in their love for horses. At all the best horse camps the coaches immerse the mostly girl campers into the wonderful world of horses in a safe and nurturing environment.

All students quickly learn how to handle themselves around horses and how to keep themselves and their mounts safe.

What Camp Site Facilities are Provided?

The best camps offer excellent camping services which include safe purpose built fire grates, picnic tables, hot and cold running water, flush toilets, safe and sheltered tent sites and the better and larger camping grounds in the state forests are also equipped with amphitheaters for slide shows and ranger talks where and when available.

However, the facilities provided by horse camp providers do vary widely, and it is always necessary to refer to their publicity materials and ask questions, if anything is unclear, before booking.

How Do you Rate a Horse Camp amongst all the Many Summer Camp Activities Available these Days?

A well run horse camp has to be ranked right up at the top of the things that young people who like animals and nature will enjoy.

One of the all-time great summer experiences for kids has to be horseback riding. It's one of those things they dream about and in later life look back on fondly.

Imagine peaceful summer days spent not only riding horses, but learning about them too. After a few days many camps will allow their best students to take charge of the pony assigned to them for the duration of the camp, and be entrusted with looking after it.

All this, while enjoying nature's beautiful surroundings in a small-group horse camp is hugely enjoyable for any young person who likes horses.
